just waiting on a few more people to re-vote.

I'm off to work but will try to keep and eye on events. If Varth is voted in.. US/WORLD ROMS ONLY please. this will allow the PS2 capcom classics versions to be allowed to be played also.

Never played either, know nothing of either. Whichever wins, so be it - I am already destined for the lower reaches of the league. So, unusual voting decision:

I abstain.

Sorry if that is disappointing. I voted initially for two older-school titles that I thought I might just, just (just) have a half-chance of a decent position at.

Ok so with 6 votes to 3 and no chance of the remaining 2 votes having any effect. Varth wins.

I will do a more detailed write up on submission requirements after work but for now it's game on.

GAME #6: VARTH - PCB/MAME, PS2, XBOX & PSP (18th May - 1st June)

US/WORLD versions only please

Default settings, on 1 credit.

Please take note that your score does not reset if you continue, but if you do continue, the last digit of the score changes to a number that represents the number of continues you have used.

All submissions should end in a zero to be valid of course :)

Game on!

Enjoy.

This is naff. And I'm not talking about my score (which will be naff in any event). Give me Twin Cobra any day - far, far superior.

Naff? With a backstory like this?

"Varth follows the story of a disaster that befalls a human colony on a planet of the same name. The entire colony is run by a 7th generation supercomputer which controls the operations of all machinery on the planet. Unfortunately for the residents of Varth, Delta-7 has been possessed by the entity "Duo", thought of as an evil spirit but actually a temporal-spatial consciousness which spontaneously arose within the supercomputer. Duo has come to the conclusion that human existence is inimical to the planet, and has therefore turned the planet's defenses against its own populace. Eighty percent of the planet is laid waste by the event, and this is only the beginning of Duo's cleansing scheme. The colonists' reliance on the supercomputer has caused them to lose the ability to take care of themselves, and thus have no means of fighting back. The only hope for the colony lies in the pilots of two planes equipped with 4th generation computers which Duo cannot control--they are controlled not by machinery, but by humans"

This game has 30 stages y'know?

I'm gonna get some credits in when I finish work in 5 hours.

This game is pretty old isn't it? 1992 I think i read. It reminds me of an early sonic wings.. The shield came in very handy on my test credits earlier...

Man oh man.. this is one tough mother..

AmidstStorm - AMS - 457,900 - Stage 04 - Smart - MAME

Image

Some things i've sussed out so far:

-The rank goes up quickly, very quickly in fact if you power up by collecting POW icons (genius).
-Rank seems to be slower rising using smart pod type.
-Not collecting POW icons on the 1st level makes for an easier ride, though in stage 2, it's gonna get you whatever..
-Not using bombs gives you added bonuses at the stage end. Collect B icons to increase bomb stock.
-Not collecting pods throughout a stage gives you 50k.. at least on the first stage it does anyhow.. Not a chance I can pass Stage 2 without them yet..
-Tonnes of hidden point bonuses... I even had a Ryu from Streetfighter II come on the screen in stage 4, complete with hadoken type sound effect :D
-The hitbox seems very small though i can't quite pinpoint it yet as the bullets get stupidly fast, stupidly quick.
-The emulation struggles a bit when things go a bit mental. I think i'll purchase the PS2 or Xbox compilation.
-This game is tough.
-I wish you all the very best of luck

Nah, it took a fair few tries to get past stage 04. Frankly I'm surprised I got as far as I did.

Ah fair enough, I only see one score on the table of yours.. i thought you'd had a stonking first credit.

Edit: This game is stupidly hard.. the poor emulation doesn't help matters. I ordered the PS2 version, hopefully it'll be better.

After 3 very dirty initial credits:

kollisionBR - EDW - 1,038,400 - Stage 06 - Fixed - PS2

Next time I will take a picture of the game's proper high score table.
I see some visibility issues here.... Let's see how it goes....
Tip from one of the PS2 screens: "Wiggle lever to charge bomb quickly" :P

Looks great, plays naff. Don't know if I can stick it often enough to progress. Got trigger happy for this pic - just taken before the score upped itself by 1.

...."Varth"?

What the heck is a Varth?

Better go look it up I suppose.....

EDIT: Oh, that one. That one's not bad.

No scores from me once again, though. It's a decent game but it's WAY too long for my very limited patience level. I'm already playing Under Defeat anyway.

Though I've kinda lost interest in this whole thing anyway, really.

Yknow my mother always said to me, "if you haven't got anything good to say..." ;)
