The "Chelsea are the best football club in the world" thread

Postby crusto on Mon May 21, 2012 12:41 am

Well done Chelsea, well done. I am chuffed you won the cup, really I am. But ffs lets have a bit of perspective here, how the hell they even made the final is a minor miracle and how they won it verges on a major one. Yet somehow all this seems forgotten today, SSN is Chelsea TV for the day..Wtf.

I recall a similar scenario last year, albeit in the crappy old Carling cup. Except the team in question actually gave a better account of themselves before winning the cup in normal time. All they got were plenty of reminders of how lucky they were and the injustice of it all (or so it would seem).

World heroes vs lucky also rans. What a strange world we inhabit.

I saw your thread title and thought 'you cannot be serious' and thank goodness you weren't

Totally agree with what you have said although football does always have that element of luck of course and boy did Chelsea have luck on their side.

Liverpool weren't the best club in Europe in 2005.

Man United weren't the best club in Europe in 2008.

However if a team wins the Champions league they have every right to celebrate it & get some decent coverage in that country's media.

Other teams have had their turn, now it's Chelsea's ....

What I find difficult to deal with is that thug Terry in the team photo trying to make it look like he actually played. He shouldn't have gone up to lift the trophy-it sets a bad precedent. In his heart of hearts though, he knows he blew it and wasn't part of the biggest game of his career. I do think the English League deserves to be called the best, though La Liga is still technically a little better.

Do agree, the whole Terry incident is a bit cringeworthy, but hey it was worth it to see people going apoplectic about it online!

Strange that none of the other Chelsea players who "kitted up" for the trophy presentation got anything like the abuse Terry did for it.

If it had have been any other captain at any other club who missed the final through suspension everyone would have said how great it was that he was able to take part in the celebrations.....

.....I guess it comes down to the fact that Terry is a hateful sod.

The great Bob Paisley (THE only manager to win three European Cups) said something along the lines of - "Win the game first, and then we'll talk about how you played after" (though it was snappier than my effort!)

Well done Chelsea, they won the competition so are champions of europe. As a Liverpool fan can't say I'm too made up about it, but that's life isn't it? Someone has to win. Congratulations to them (but not Terry, he's a ******* ****.)

Of course Chelsea have now matched Aston Villa as European Cup holders - and it's only taken them 30 years and £1,000,000,000!

Don't I know it! Peter Withe, Gary Shaw, Gordon 'Sid' Cowans, Alan Evans, Denis Mortimer, Tony Morley, et al. Ah, those were the days! :D

In the face of Chelski, Arsenal, Spurs fans (I live down South) lauding it over Villa fans I've long enjoyed being able to retort with that barb.

Hearing them tell me how rubbish Villa now are and being able to state in response, "A football club may only be considered truly great once they've won the European Cup. Won the European Cup have you?" . Not any more with Chelski fans though! :(

Gotta hand it to David Cameron in doing his bit for Anglo-German relations!

If Chelsea had played gret football and failed at the end, I would have been happy. But to defend for 75 minutes and squeak the title on penalties is not worthy of being the best club in Europe. Yes, they showed nerve and spirit, but they would all have quite happily accepted the cash and switched sides for a shot at glory...

"It's not often you get the opportunity to watch a penalty shootout between an English team and a German team and watch the English team win," Cameron told reporters in Chicago.

Yes, an English team with eight foreign players and a foreign manager (unlike Munich's eight German players and German manager).

Calm down Dave, it wasn't the England national team!

As opposed to the Liverpool FC team featuring nine foreign players (with a foreign manager) which won the UEFA Champions League final against AC Milan back in 2005 you mean?
