There's loads of acts that I consider better than the Beatles.

This Jedward/Crowded House thing isn't about personal taste for me. People like different things and that's the way of it.

No, it's about a statement that says a pair of media puppets like Jedward, who are renowned for their very obvious lack of talent, could be considered more talented than a group of award-winning musicians who write their own songs and lyrics, play their own instruments and then perform it all for a live audience. It doesn't matter if you like Jedward or not. They're still censored when compared to a real band. Any band. It's an absolute no-brainer.

Jedward aren't even any good at being twins. Never have I seen two people so out of synch with one another.

I was wrong about that. I apologise. I said "more talented", I should have said "more entertaining".
Perhaps down to how bad they are but, if channel flicking, I'd stop on Jedward before Crowded House. Every time.

OK, remember it's purely subjective (there is no definitive x is better than y) but I prefer these to the beetles/beatle.
Just sticking to the letter B for now.
Black Sabbath
The Beach Boys
The Beastie Boys
Beck
Big Audio Dynamite
Bjork
Blondie
Bob Seger and the Sliver Bullet Band
Body Count
David Bowie
Brand New Heavies
James Brown
Jackson Browne
The Buzzcocks
Biffy Clyro

You've lost me with this one though. :?

You mentioned techno as a modern musical genre, to my mind it's around 30 years old now... IE not modern... someone mentioned that you were a techno fan I just assumed you'd know your onions.
Obvioulsy personal taste is your human right but of the acts you list there would be only one I consider on a par with the Beetles and that is the Beach Boys.

Sorry but your statement that Jedward and N-Dubz are better than Crowded House is like a red rag to a bull to me... I can't see any consistancy in your posts. You claim to be a fan of the Beach Boys which were an act that championed harmony, melody and song structure, just like Crowded House and the Beetles so your statement about Jedward and N-DUBZ seems nonsensical, also someone said you were a techno fan (I admit I have not heard you say that yet) but you seem ignorant to Techno's roots and have claimed it is a modern musical genre...
Now Dubstep and Drum and Bass are modern musical genres but techno not really so. There are some massive Drum and Bass acts that are making some brilliant music at the moment, Subfocus, Pendulum, Magnetic Man and Chase and Status to name a few but personally I would have to say that none of them are on a par with the Beetles, but, hey, there's no accounting for personal I guess. :D

Incidently, did you like the Bee Gees?

I personally think modern music peaked with The Venga Boys...

RIP Robin... couldn't stand the Bee Gees myself, but I can appreciate the music they made

RIP Robin - it wasn't all disco, hair and big teeth - they were massive in the 60s. Check this out (the 2nd link I posted few days ago).

Can't remember the stats but at one point they had the whole top 5 in the US Billboard charts....or something like that - pretty amazing really.

Was that during their disco peak in the 70's? It is an amazing stat.

a)In relative terms 30 years isn't old
b)It was a sarcastic remark in response to someone mentioning The Shamen & techno in the same sentence. By someone who, clearly, doesn't know their onions.

As for the rest of you post, it seems to be made up of mis-reading, mis-interpretation, guess work & assumption.
I started DJ'ing at the end of the 80's - early 90's at the birth of the UK house/techno/rave scene. I do know my onions.

PS I'm not a Bee Gees fan but I can't deny they had some fantastic songs.
I honestly cannot say the same about the Beatles. I can't think of one. Sorry :(

I bet there's a song you like out there and it's a Beatles song but you just don't realise it's a Beatles song. They're just one of "those" bands. I've always liked "Got To Get You Into My Life" by Cliff Bennet & The Rabble Rousers. I didn't know it was a cover of a Beatles song right up until a few months ago.
Personally, the Beatles don't impress me although I like some of Lennon's solo stuff. When it comes to that 60's and early 70's era I'm in the Rolling Stones camp tbh. And The Kinks and The Small Faces and The Doors.

What I know about techno wouldn't fill a gnat's jockstrap.

Being a player of other peoples music does clearly not make you an expert in it, that's like saying being a long distance lorry driver makes you an expert in the science behind the internal combustion engine...

sorry that was a sarcastic remark... isn't being flippant wonderful?

So, a man died then? You'd never be able to tell, I came into this half way through and it appears to be a deconstruction of musical genre and tastes.
Anyway, dragging it somewhere back on topic (if that's possible).

Robin Gibb was a decent entertainer and will be missed by many. I feel bad for his family as it appeared that until recently he may have pulled through this and may actually be recovering.
62 is not that old these days, he had many more years ahead of him.
RIP.

Clearly not the same thing though, I'm not claiming to know the electronic in's & out's of a record player
Of course years of reading about, listening & playing "other's peoples music" makes me an expert (of sorts).
Otherwise I wouldn't have been employed for all those years!

It's nice to see that the news of a man's death and a families grief still doesn't get in the way of the need to endlessly waffle on about things that no one else gives a toss about.
