The only next-gen handheld I'm interested in buying? iPhone 5. :D

I agree.

I'm baffled that many would want the bloody Vita or 3DS and their 40 dollar games that are often ports/clones of other AAA games already on the consoles, as opposed to one of these and the PERSQUILLIONS OF GOOD GAMES for very low price. Granted, even with there being persquillions of good games, there's.... er..... an even bigger number of CRAP games that you have to sift through, but..... Nintendo customers should be used to doing that at least, right?

Hah, I couldnt resist that one.

Either way, yes, not buying either of those bloody gizmos. Just need the iPad 3, thank you, that'll do just fine.

Now if only it didnt cost so much. Or, I guess I should say..... now if only I didnt keep blowing money on random shiny things, I might have bought one by now....

You can say that again

Anyway its wednesday which means a fair few games are coming out midnight tonight

Air Mail
http://forums.toucharcade.com/showthread.php?t=135704
Think this one looks great, couple of control methods, looks great, 500 meg file and this ones a few dollars but the gameplay video on that thread makes it look great, might get this one later

Virtua Tennis
http://forums.toucharcade.com/showthrea ... 708&page=2
Swipe controls but seems to play very well

Slingshot Racing
http://forums.toucharcade.com/showthread.php?t=135705
Different way to race but for 69p its worth a shot

Subway Surfers
http://forums.toucharcade.com/showthread.php?t=135706
Seems a decent Temple Run type of game, its free so no doubt a fair bit of IAP in it

Fair few others out as well, seems to be a decent night for releases

Virtua Tennis,
Omg, this could really work well I believe! Will hold out for a few reviews first though just in case they mess up the controls. Also feel it would be best played on iPad as opposed to the relatively small screen of an iPhone/iPod touch but I could be wrong.

Slingshot Racing,
Looks novel and fun and it's another top-down racer (a genre I adore).

Air Mail,
Looks potentially quite brilliant. I wonder how well my iPhone 4 might cope with those graphics though. Come on, Apple, release iPhone 5 already as I skipped upgrading to the 4S!

Subway Surfers,
Kinda like the marvellous Temple Run, as you said, crossed with elements of the 3D Sonic The Hedgehog games. Very interested!

It never ceases to amaze me just how fantastic the world of iOS gaming is. :D

Virtua Tennis is excellent on PSP, so I wouldn't worry about screen size if they get the controls right.

Slingshot racing looks interesting. I've tried a few racers on iPhone but touch controls for dpads or similar don't really work for me. This one looks like its considered an alternate control and built a racing game round it, so it might just be what I need.

I bought Virtua Tennis on PSP back when it was first released. I never quite thought they nailed the controls spot-on tbh but, yes, it was an otherwise excellent conversion. Damn game used to make fingers/hands ache though!

Sorry to hear you don't get on with the touchscreen controls with the iOS racing games you've tried so far. Excellent quality top-down racers on iOS which I think play well, i.e. aren't for me ruined by poor controls, include the likes of Reckless Racing, Reckless Racing 2, Mini Motor Racing and CitiRacing. There are plenty more but those are the ones which immediately spring to mind. If you've not already played those then hopefully you'll get on with the touchscreen controls this time. :D

I lost far too many races in Reckless due to fingers slipping away from the virtual buttons. Can't get on with those at all. Games designed for touch screen can be great, but emulating buttons just doesn't work. Might be more manageable on the larger iPad but its useless on the phone. Too many deaths in too many games. I'm not short of portable gaming so its no great loss, there's always the PSP or DS for proper controls.

To be fair, some people struggle with virtual/touchscreen buttons more than others.

The rather excellent Swords and Soldiers is currently on offer for only 69p (from £1.99) which is waaaaay cheaper than on WiiWare and PSN. :D

I thought I would hate touch screen buttons but I love them. Prefer games with buttons rather than swipe stuff etc. tons of practice on racing and platform games. Completed many games and don't have a problem at all with them

I still hate most touch screen controls tbh, Cave shooters are great and simple games from Angry Birds to Flick Kick but platfomers generally suck, I have 350 bought apps so have played a few, just not sensitive enough for me, games like Grim Joggers ad the only platfomers I like. Sill the iCade has allowed me to sample Minter games as they should be and a fair few others so can't grumble. Quick shout out for Bubble pig, quite fun.

Well bought a few games last night...

Air Mail – LOVE IT, its like Pilot Wings on the N64, looks stunning, amazing game. Really plays so well, and it has invert controls so you can fly the plane 'properly' eg you press up and it'll nosedive, press down to climb etc.

Virtua Tennis, lots of control options, sad they had to change the names to fake ones but best tennis game I’ve got

Bee Leader – Nice weird type of game ! Collect honey avoid things etc, good cheap game

Slingshot Racing – Need to play this ! Different type of racing game, looks interesting !

But Air Mail is excellent.

By the way its an old favourite but check out 'Clash Force'. Great cheap retro style platformer, NES style graphics/tune and plays very well, jump/fire, bit like Ghost n Goblins etc, very good.
