Idea for Retrogamer: Game Gadget update

Postby kiwimike on Mon May 28, 2012 9:39 am

I'm sure most have seen the topic in the 'All about the Games' section, and the nightmare the Game Gadget has become for any poor sods that bought it in the hope of using the 'Itunes styled store' for anything other than freeware, and nothing like the hype to product release suggested.
As RG had a brief feature on it, stating it's excitement at the concept and potential (I think most of us were), I thought it was only fitting to continue the saga-and give customers a heads up as to what they are really in for should they buy one! IMO a brief update of how their hype measures up to what actually happened.
I personally got put off buying one as the emails I got coaxing me to purchase were just flat out cagey, constantly flummoxing around what games were coming out when. whenever I asked specifically WHAT games WHEN...I got a bad feeling and didn't bother. But many here have horror stories they can share, and would be happy to. Well, it would be nice as their facebook page littered with complaints has disappeared and their forum is now under Nazi rule and does not do criticism of any kind! Even asking when games are coming gets you a warning!

So it seems the GG is okay if you are computer savvy and want one to do your own thing with- if you bought it to do what they adverts and hype suggested, and make game purchases- you are in for a shock. IMO a brief update for RG readers and retro fans to take caution before buying one would be good.

I'm going to also email Games TM, and the other magazines featured on the GG home page that initially gave them magazine space and like many of us loved the idea so swallowed the hype-and suggest they too 'update' so people do know what they are buying, rather than the misleading hype about what you get with a GG.

And the Saga so far makes an interesting story. And STILL none of those games that Mark couldn't tell me about due to his 'non disclosure agreements'...how convenient... But I'm sure people that had the GG can add here as well- and I'm sure a couple here might have the GG for it's open source nature and be happy with it. :)

Yeah, possibly...just thought I'd bring up a GG update for possible inclusion in the mag due to RG initially giving it coverage, as did other mags such as Games TM, and Games Master. And GG are using those early 'reviews' (although they actually weren't reviews as such) on their home page to promote it.
Games TM is about to do an update (they've been waiting for Blaze to get it together to send the unit to them), so thought maybe RG & Games Master should update theirs as well.
