Mount Rushmore of Gaming

Here's a photograph of Mount Rushmore, with scupltures of George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt and Abraham Lincoln. "The lads". Big names in American political history, so they are. Good guys.

If you were to sculpt a Mount Rushmore of Gaming, who would be up on the mountain? Perhaps not even in terms of their importance to gaming as a whole or how recognisable they are, but rather what they meant to you growing up as a gamer. Who is your Mount Rushmore of Gaming?

Mine would feature:

Super Mario: Without question. Star of the greatest games in history. Almost as recognisable as Mickey Mouse too.

Sonic The Hedgehog: The face of SEGA, my personal favourite games publisher/developer.

Lara Croft: Gaming's first sex-symbol, with the 1996 original influencing a raft of 3D action-adventure games that are so important today, like Uncharted. Absolutely everywhere in the late 90s as well, and due a revival on PS3 and 360 this year.

Parappa The Rapper: Yes! I recognise the PSOne original as the birth of modern rhythm/music games. Would we have had the likes of Guitar Hero, Elite Beat Agents and Rhythm Thief without it...? Besides, I absolutely love the Parappa games!

Parappa The Rapper? Pfft! Miner Willy FTW!

... or Pac-Man, or one of the iconic invaders from Space Invaders.

I would rather have real people, real icons and people who made the industry that I love:

Nolan Bushnell
Jack Tramiel
Sir Clive Sinclair
Ralph Baer

I'd probably have the same, but swap Sir Clive for Shiggsy instead.

Chuck Rock, James Pond, Dizzy and that face from Berzerk.

Not the most influental faces in gaming, but it'd make for an interesting sculpture.

How about Rockford, Thing on a Spring, Jetman and Roland? Characters from four platforms and fairly easy for the sculptors. =-)
