Uses for an old laptop screen

Postby commanderkaiser on Mon Jun 25, 2012 8:19 pm

So any ideas what I can do with one? It's an LCD taken out of a broken advent laptop I think. The screen worked fine but the laptop was being chucked out so I rescued a few parts just in case they were useful and this screen is the only remaining thing without a new use.

I was thinking of using it as a moniter to install in a small MAME cabinet, I've seen on youtube and ebay you get these board which convert it into DVI and VGA, does this seem a decent idea or not and has anyone ever done this? I was thinking the screen will look pretty good and be incredibly lightweight too.
Any other possible ideas for use?

Well pretty much anything screen based if your able to get the adapters, an LCD might not look so authentic if you plan to play older Arcade games but should bring up more modern ones nicely.
One thing Id like to do is get an old busted retro styled TV and fit it out with more modern componants, perhaps you could try doing this.

You could make it into a ghetto projector for your computer (and therefore movies/roms etc) if you could get hold of an old OHP.
