I can't remember which year because I was really quite young when we first had Sky installed, but it was in the early '90s. It only had 16 channels!

Not had Sky since I moved out of my parents' house over 7 years ago, and won't ever bother with it again. Although, it is a pity the Sci-Fi channel isn't on Freeview...

My parents got it the day season 6 of Buffy started. They had 'promised' to get it as a reward if I passed my French GCSE and my younger brother tidied his room (he never did). I think my parents had already decided to get it for themselves though :)

Autumn 1995, IIRC.Nynex (later Cable & Wireless, then NTL, then Virgin) had just installed their cables on our road, and my folks signed up for their cable tv package. We got the full works: Entertainment, Sky Movies and Sky Sports.

Spent plenty of Friday nights watching Headbangers Ball on MTV, The Friday Rock Show on VH1, and WWF Raw.

Last year 2011, I did not think it was worth the price but we got a super good deal. The only reason I still have it is for the HD channels nothing else

My parents got it in 1989. One of those Amstrad 16 channel boxes. They got one without a remote control because they thought it would be one more to clutter the place up(after the TV, VHS and Hifi!). Ask them how many they have nowadays!

It was quite exciting at the time. The films were probably what got a lot of people interested. I can remember watching 'Labyrinth' and 'Three Men and a Baby' on that channel in one night. With the old BBFC rating system. They used to show the UK Top 10 box office as well.

MTV was interesting as well. Yes, there was Ray Cokes and the other VJs. You mainly had to watch to listen out for a song and video you liked. The Album show on there was good as well.

Sky One was interesting in its own way. There was WWF - that was amusing. Hulk Hogan, Ultimate Warrior and so on. They did show US Mini Series on Sunday nights(Roots, North and South, etc.). My parents liked that. They also showed 'Wiseguy' which was about an undercover FBI agent(it featured a young Kevin Spacey as a bad guy!). They also repeated one ITV shows like 'Robin of Sherwood'(Robin - dededdededede - the hooded man!) and 'Return to Treasure Island'(with Brian Blessed). I can also remember 'The Man From Atlantis'(with Patrick Duffy from 'Dallas'), 'The Invisible Man'(the one with David McCallum in it) and 'Wonder Woman'(which also showed the season which wasn't broadcast by the BBC). I also remember a couple of other TV dramas 'Equal Justice' and 'Picket Fences'.

It was great that they repeated the original 'Star Trek' - at the time anyway. Then they moved on to TNG and overtook the BBC with it. Great that they showed them uncut as well - and showed the 'banned episode' - 'On High Ground'.

I also remember 'The X-Files' as well on there. Plus, 'Millennium'.

They also showed 'Highlander : the series' on there. That was quite good. Highlander going around lopping people's head off!

I have vague memories of early Eurosport and also the WHS Smith channel - 'Lifestyle'. I think they showed some early CGI sci-fi series. Can't remember what it was called.

Early UK Gold was good as well. Showing 'Doctor Who', 'Callan' and 'Blake's 7'.

In the analogue days, it was always recommend that your satellite box have Panda Stereo Noise Reduction. It was sort of like Dolby for satellite sound. The Amstrad didn't have it.

The radio stations were also quite a novelty on there at the time.

Nope, but I do remember all those adverts for those Braun Alarm Clocks on it. The ones which switched off either by your voice or waving your arm in front of them! They were on all the time in the early 1990s.

Never had sky, satalite or cable till 2011.
Never fancied paying for somebody to pump my front room full of adverts. Got virgin cable last year when we moved house so I could have the phat fibre optic Internet and my partner could have the tv package. Must say I am enjoying ITV 4 with the Sweeny and The Professionals but I think we used to get that on free view anyway.
My dad has sky - hes had since the early 90s for the sport. Found out last year he had had the movie package since he had sky but had never watched a film!!!!!!!! Called sky and cancelled movies for him - it took me half an hour they really didn't want to remove it from his subscription, came very close to losing my rag.
