Wimbledon Championship 2012

Postby thl on Thu Jun 21, 2012 11:46 pm

It's confirmed that Novak Djokovic is among the top seeds in the men singles match. Will be interesting to see if Rafa Nadal, Roger Federer or Andy Murray can prevent him from winning another title. The likes of Jo-Wilfred Tsonga, Dave Ferrer, and Juan Martin Del Potro seemed to have done really well too and they're likely to be the dark horses of this championship.

As for the women singles, Maria Sharapova is placed top seed after her grand slam victory at the French Open few weeks ago. Although she finished runners-up after that defeat to Petra Kvitova last year, this could be her chance of winning it. Also the likes of Victoria Azarenka, Agnieszka Radwanska, and Samatha Stosur are among serious contenders too as they're chasing for that title.

Will be interesting to see how it turns out when it starts on Monday.

I'd love to see Federer win it again and equal pistol Petes 7 titles. Hes the best player I have ever seen, but I think he lacks the weapons to defeat the likes of Novak and Rafa nowadays. 30 is ancient in tennis terms, but still, there is hope. Hes not that far behind and has smashed Nadal once this year.

I dont find the womens game as exciting as I once did, the Graf and Seles era was brilliant. I dunno, I would probably like to see Sharapova win it again.

Comfortable win for Djokovic and Federer as they go through to the second round. Very easy first round for Sharapova too.

Plus what a surprise for Venus Williams as she went out early. Despite that defeat, she's available for the doubles match.

I love Wimbledon, but don't get to see it much these days with work and what not, plus I'm renovating our new house so will probably get to see zero coverage of it! Was gutted I missed the French Open final as well.

I'd like Murray to win - but unless he can keep it together for two weeks then I just can't see past Nadal and Djokovic.

I'm not as interested in the women's game - not sure if that's their problem or mine! Am I missing anything? It seems to be full of impossible to pronounce russians and eastern europeans.

I also wish the BBC would put "Today at Wimbledon" on at 9pm instead of 8 - though I'm sure they had it on at a stupid time last year, either 7 or 11.15.

I always be a Roddick fan until the day he retires. I will always wish for him to win (although 99% doubtful now). Second to him, is Ferrer, as I always love the shorter men to fight through the tourneys, and Ferrer is like speedy gonzalez out there.

Think the times alright, cant you simply tape it/sky+ it ?

Enjoyed the shock yesterday of the Williams sister losing, always like the big surprise in the early round or two

Yeah, for me it was a low point in the womens game when they were both dominating, made it far too boring and predictable.

The shock keeps coming in the women singles as Caroline Wozniacki fell to defeat in the first round. Same for Samantha Stosur who went out in the second round.

Another easy win for Federer as he progress into the third round.

Wozniacki has gone early in a few competitions this year hasn't she? Is she still world number one?

I believe Sharapove is now, since her win at the French.

Can't believe Nadal is out after the second round.

This could be an opportunity for Djokovic, Federer and possibly Murray afterall.

She's currently no. 7 in the ranking. Seemed very inconsistent lately as she didn't live up to expectation.

That's right as she overtook Victoria Azarenka in the ranking after winning the French Open.
