House of the Dead Overkill on Wii. Short, easy, silly, but good fun whilst it lasts

Castlevania: Curse of Darkness on the PS2.

Ive only ever heard bad things about this game (excluding nakamuras praise for it) so i was genuinely surprised at how good this was. It has everything a Castlevania fan wants. Levelling up, fluid combat, addictive loot hunting, lots of secrets and introduces some new elements to the series with item stealing, weapon/armour synthesizing and training monsters. Im a huge Castlevania fan but i held off buying this because of the negative press. Regret it now! Has to be one of my favourite PS2 games.

Hmm... I saved them all on my first run-through but playing the stages again on a higher difficulty doesn't seem to count as another run so I could be buggered. I know I didn't save them all on hard mode but even after completing all of the stages that way, I still got the good ending :?

Just an update on this (if anybody even cares): I replayed the prologue level again today to get some more Platinum medals and halfway through, the trophy for viewing the bad ending unlocked itself! . I still haven't seen the bad ending mind, it just popped up halfway through the level for no apparent reason...

Shinobi 3DS

Enjoyable up to a point where the game gets beyond cruel. Its unbearably difficult and the last two levels have some really nasty platforming sections. I played it on beginner difficulty and that was enough for me. Its a shame because the combat and parrying system are really well done but the game is designed around trial and error memory tests so you normally die the moment you see anything coming.

I've still got to clear the (last?) level which has that pain in the ass maze about half way through. I've not had a problem before then in the game but this but is horrible. Made me shelve the game for now :(

^ Yeah, the maze of doors is absolute rubbish. Fighting your way all the way to the last room, taking a wrong turn and having to start it over is a huge slap in the face. Although thats nothing compared to the last level :(

Halo Combat Evolved Anniversary, every bit as epic as it was on release. The updated visuals look fantastic and really help make the game feel fresh

Having finally at long last bought an Xbox 360 (yeah, I know, just 6 years late) I've been playing a stack of classic titles (whilst trying to decorate my house).

Just completed Gears of War 2 - brilliant, absorbing, and a tough bast at times on Hardcore. Tremendous graphics, which unfortunately are making some of the other titles suffer by comparison (Halo 3 looks very weak, although I've only just started on it).

Resident Evil 5 - I knew it was never going to stand up to Resi 4 on the 'cube, but the save system is killing my enthusiasm to finish the last third of the game... damn good thing Dead Space took on the survival horror mantle.

Its down to €11.99 in HMV brand new - I was tempted I have to say, but the reviews have been scathing, so I left it. If its as annoying as I've heard then I'm glad I didn't get it.

Watched the end credits roll on Super Mario Galaxy 2 earlier.

Still need to work through the special world and then will put it to rest I think and tackle the green stars another time.

Alpha Protocol
Enjoyed it waaaaaaaay more than Deus EX HR, less things about it annoyed me. Will play again someday and go all gun ho
(Also unlike the Deus EX games all your choices changed the end, not just the last one)

Finished another playthrough of Metal Arms: Glitch In The System, superb stuff, too bad I'll probably never play the multiplayer though.

Onimusha 3

Pretty much the same as the others in the series but i enjoyed it a lot. Especially liked playing as Jaques with all his whip shenanigans. The latter stages of the game felt a bit cheap though when you're getting swarmed by enemies and eventually your guard breaks, opening you up to loads of damage. That was mainly a problem in the dark realm which is intentionally harsh so i guess you cant complain.
