Mortal Kombat

Game Profile:

Dare you battle the outer gods to save our mortal souls from the evil!

Mortal Kombat stunned players and parents alike with its then shocking fatalities in its game, this the first of many in the series received a home port

The megadrive translation of mortal kombat was done pretty well, of course due to cart limitations some animations and colours had to be sacrificed along with some awful midi type music replacing the arcade music, but otherwise this is a good port.Chooseing your fighter from a handful of seven, you commence to fight for the battle of the earth, pulling of uppercuts, kicks, and fireballs that send your opponents into the air with your super strength.

In between to earn you more points you can test your might, this can range from cracking an anvil to breaking a diamond!

The most infamous part of the game was of course the fatalities, this could range from been decapitated to been burned to a cinder. Also should be noted that this was released on the snes, but thanks to Nintendo family friendly policies this lead to a lot of fatalities and moves been removed, this was not the case for the megadrive,a simple code allowed all the gore and guts available, this of course lead to increase sales of the game for the megadrive.

That is definately the BEST outing in the whole Mortal Kombat franchise. This game changed everything we ever thought or knew about fighting games. Ever since it release games based on digitalised graphics flood the market as everyone wanted a piece of cake. That obviously spawned loads of real low quality releases yet Mortal Kombat series always (well, at least as long as they stayed 2D) kept the similar, high quality.

Cultural impact, yes. SEGA superiority over Nintendo, yes. Gameplay, no. Ah well, two out of three ain't bad, right?
