Game Profile:

This is another game im surprised i havent seen been uploaded

The story of Metal Gear Solid follows Solid Snake, a retired soldier who infiltrates a  nuclear weapons disposal facility to neutralize the terrorist threat from FOXHOUND a renegade special forces unit. Snake must liberate two hostages, the head of DARPA and the president of a major arms manufacturer, confront the terrorists, and stop them from launching a nuclear strike.

Despite a transition to 3D, Metal Gear Solid's gameplay remains similar to its predecessor Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake. The player must navigate Solid Snake, through the game's areas without being detected by enemies.Detection is triggered by the player moving into an enemy's line of sight and sets off an alarm that draws armed enemies to his location. This also triggers "alert mode" and the player must then hide and remain undetected, at which point “evasion mode” begins and once the counter reaches zero the game returns to "infiltration mode" where enemies are not suspicious of Snake’s presence. The radar cannot be used in alert or evasion mode.

Metal Gear Solid was a commercial success, shipping over 6 million copies worldwide.Upon release, it was one of the most rented games, and topped sales charts here in the UK.

Before this game I was a gung-ho gamer. I liked to shoot first and ask questions later. Metal Gear Solid taught me that there was another way, an even more thrilling one. Now I love biding my time and sneaking around.

I must be missing something with MGS, great production values and all that, but a very shallow and annoying game underneath it all as far as I'm concerned.

Great game and all, but i kinda hate it for making stealth so popular. when used right with games like this it was cool but after this nearly every adventure/action game had stealth badly shoe-horned in :(

What a game! It absolutely deserves it's critical and commercial success. A benchmark game, i remember being amazed by the AI, following your footprints in the snow. The touch with breath being visible out in the cold, stunning. How come no one has mentioned the other classic bit? Snake, Snnnnaaaaaakkkkkkeeeee!!!!!!!!!

I loved it when a certain character commented on how I liked Castlevania.

One of my all time fav games. It was like being in a bizarre interactive action or anime movie. I had total control over this Snake dude, stealth or not, its my choice. A decent story in a video game for once. Stunning graphics, music and sound. Voice overs. But i loved the hide and seek element. The little touches were ace too. Having a cigarette. Masterpiece. One of the great video series.
