Game Profile:
Everyone knows Jetpac, if you don't where have you been? Well Mr Jetman has been stranded on an alien planet and his spaceship is in three pieces. Luckily you have a Jetpac to help you fly around.
Your first task, excluding surviving, is to pick up the pieces of your rocket and assemble them. Once that is done you'll need to collect the fuel pods that fall from the top of the screen and drop them on to your rocket to refuel it. You'll need several to fill it up to the top - the rocket fuel level is denoted by a purple colour. Once full it will flash ready for you to take off. Walk (or fly) inside to launch to the next planet. This time your rocket is in one piece so you just need to refuel it.
Now if building and refuelling were your only problems, this would be a pretty boring game. To make it exciting each planet is inhabited by a swarm of aliens, each with there own behaviours. Shoot these with your laser or run away - either is a valid tactic but shooting will obviously get you more points. To help boost your score you can also pick up precious bonus items that drop into the game.
The difficulty curve from planet to planet is balanced pretty well and provides a good challenge. The Vic-20 version doesn’t have as many planets as the Spectrum original and once you complete them all it loops back to the first planet, although a bit faster, with the same Rocket. It would have been nice if the Vic version could have had a different rocket each time the levels loop around but this is a minor niggle in otherwise a fine conversion for the less powerful Vic-20 computer.
