Game Profile:
There are a few unlicensed games knocking about for various systems and this is one such naughty little article (complete with single sheet booklet). As the name suggests this particular title consists of 4 separate action games; which can be accessed through a simple menu on start-up. So a short description of each wouldn’t go a miss I’m guessing, so here goes:
Power Block:
I have a list of games types that I loath and right up there with generic sports titles goes cruddy Arkanoid clones, in fact until I played Power Blocks I hated paddle and ball type game play, and sure it has the usual variety of paddle power-ups accessed by hitting random blocks including paddle shrinker, shooting capability, and ball speed up, amongst a few other novel additions. However the difference comes in this title with the level set up, they are so varied and eye-catching that you can’t help but want to see what’s next, and not only is there a massive variety of levels but each one has a boss to defeat which only adds to the ‘gotta see it all’ game mechanic.
Adventure Kid:
A jerky crunched up version of Wonder boy/Adventure Island with more weapons and dinosaur riding capabilities, but due to the judders it’s not half as playable. Not a complete mess – but close.
Twin Mouse:
Encompassing a strange gender bending mechanic where you switch sex ala Ranma ˝ with certain power ups. If you change into the female mouse you can float like Princess Peach otherwise you’re just jumping about as the brother mouse. Predictable and a little slippery to control but worth a play through.
Cave Dude:
A Bonks Adventure style clone without the inventiveness, but still a solid platform adventure. You start with a club and can collect other weapons such as a mallet to advance through hoards of curiously familiar enemies. With solid controls and satisfying game play this is another decent one in the collection despite awful tunes.
All in all it’s worth getting hold of for a bunch of fun, if not massively polished, rare, games!
