World Games

Game Profile:

The Epyx 'Games' collection was a real standout on the C64, offering a more intelligent alternative to the likes of Hyper Sports that relied on you bashing the crap out of your keyboard or joystick to win events. The less strenuous controls combined with impressively-animated graphics and superb sound had already made Summer Games I & II and Winter Games into big hits, but World Games was something different altogether...

While it's predecessors focussed on the typical summer and winter Olympic events, World Games sees you travelling across the globe participating in some of the most weird and wonderful sports imaginable. Highlights include Log-rolling in Canada, Mexican cliff diving, Rodeo bull riding and tossing the caber in Scotland! All are rendered with the trademark Epyx graphical style, a fitting soundtrack for each nation you visit, and no small amount of humour. The usual array of game options and a neat textual introduction to each event help make this one of the most challenging, enjoyable and unique sports games ever.

The game is now available on the Wii Virtual Console in Europe.

Good, but the variable difficulty of the events proves the formula was going stale...

Was this the one with the log rolling in it? If so, one of my favourite 'sports' games

I eagerly awaited this game and enjoyed playing it but it wasn't a patch on summer/winter games.
