Warner Bros has just announced a brand new version of Gauntlet.
Little has been giving away other than that it is a reimagination of the popular Atari arcade games, once again starring the Warrior, Wizard, Elf and Valkyrie. The game itself has a heavy Diablo vibe, with similar visuals and viewpoint and is being coded by Swedish-based developer Arrowhead, best known for Magica and The Showdown Effect.
While the key components of Gauntlet are being promised, it will also have the expected contempary twists, meaning brand new special moves for characters and procedural dungeons to explore. We wouldn’t be surprised to see some sort of RPG skill tree in there as well.
We’ve always been big fans of Gauntlet and still regret the loss of the fun DS version (which recently resurfaced online) so it will be great to see what Arrowhead has planned. Gauntlet is also the first new game in Warner’s proposed Game Vault series, meaning more classic games could be receiving a similar makeover in the future.
In the meantime we’ll leave you with a video so you can make your own mind up about Gauntlet’s new direction.
You can expect a review when Gauntlet is released on Steam later this year.
