Rayman SNES Prototype Found

8,507 views 0 comments

A very early prototype ROM of Rayman for the SNES has been dumped and released online, with the apparent backing of series creator Michel Ancel. The¬†release was aided by Omar Cornut, a long-term videogame preservationist best known for his work at SMS Power! and on the recent Wonder Boy: The Dragon’s Trap remake project.

The ROM is a very basic proof of concept demo – though it features Rayman’s trademark limbless animations and some beautiful background art, there’s not a lot to do due to the lack of enemies and obstacles in the stage. Still, it’s a neat bit of videogame history, and Ancel has stated his intention to find the later builds of the game.

If you want to get a copy of the ROM to see it for yourself, a link can be found in the Instagram post embedded above.
