System Shock 2 Is Free For 48 Hours

If you’ve heard people raving about System Shock 2 or if it’s just been a while since your last encounter with SHODAN, you’ll want to pay attention to this news – you can download the game for free from gog.com right now, as part of the store’s summer sale. Be warned, though – the offer will only be active for 48 hours, which gives you little time to download it.

If you missed it the first time around, System Shock 2 concerns your fight against The Many, an alien collective that has infected most of your former crew mates on the Von Braun, and SHODAN, a malevolent artificial intelligence. The game is a first-person shooter with significant role-playing and horror elements.

gog.com’s main offering is digital games free of the DRM restrictions that are part of the deal in other services, and the retailer has recently launched GOG Galaxy, a store front application that is much like that of its competitor Steam. The giveaway is being used to stress test GOG Galaxy, and therefore requires players to download System Shock 2 through it.
