If you’ve always liked the look of cult Japanese platformer Umihara Kawase but have never been able to import it, you’re in luck – as long as you have access to the North American 3DS eShop. Yumi’s Odd Odyssey is out today for $29.99, marking the first Western release in a quirky series often championed by import gamers. We can’t find any details on a European release, but we’ll let you know if word arrives.
The Umihara Kawase series started with the launch of the original game on the SNES in December 1994, which tasked the player with traversing tricky platform stages with the aid of a fishing line that functions rather like a grappling hook. The series has since seen sequels on the PlayStation, PSP and DS before the most recent title on the 3DS. If you want to learn more, check out Mat Allen’s profile of the SNES game on this very site.
