This is one game that is sure to spark up feelings of 80’s nostalgia. Just look at that screen shot for a start! Check out those moustaches, mullets and large glasses from the mug shots of the staff at Elite. I bet all the fellas were wearing slips-ons whilst the girls all sported shoulder pads!
Yet that’s not a reflection on this being another bad 80’s style TV spin off game. Far from it, being a music fan I really enjoy playing Mike Read’s Computer Pop Quiz. Its format is similar to the TV show A Question of Sport. From a series of rounds with questions that give you multiple choice answers, you get to pick a square, guess the year and the star as well as a quick fire round that can really turn the tables on your other team if you are quick enough with the correct answers. I think it’s even more of a challenge today. With some questions that were modern for the time, now you can really rack your brains as you try to remember answers to forgotten hits of yesteryear such as; “Who was still standin in 83?”
The game works best as a two player game especially the quick fire round, though the computer does put up a good team to play against. Basically if you are losing it gets a few wrong and if you are winning it answers correctly more often. Simple AI I know but it works to nail biting effect during the final rounds. With 5 question blocks to choose from, it should keep you entertained for a while as well as brushing up on your music facts for those pop quizzes down at your local pub. Oh and by the way, if you didn't know it was Elton John who was still standin’ in 83!
