PI is one of the rarest Atari 2600 games ever! PI is a Space Invaders clone where you shot the letters P E P S I and then an alien. It has a three min. timer where you try to beat as many stages as possible. It's a ROM hack of the game Space Invaders. I found it at a garage sale, But I bet you don't care. The game holds up well, it's just that it's only a small $2000 on ebay. I think that it might be the worst game idea know to man. Well, I didn't like crazy taxi, but this is about PI! There are only 125 copies and it was commissioned by Coca-Cola for their 1983 sales convention. I don't see why they didn't just put the game on the market and make a few dollars?

The box was a flimsy, plastic shell that hardly held the games, let alone keep them in mint condition to sell. And the game itself was flawed. The things didn't move! they were suspended in mid-air for the whole game! Also, the game has no label, so you have to make your own. I bought a NES game holder from www.retrousb.com to hold it, but some people jut make a label and don't take it out of the box. Killjoys.

Ah pathetic corporate rivalry. It's nice to know that even amidst all that wasting of time, effort, money and emotion loathing a company for making similar standard similar products to you, you can make light of how bloody stupid this whole thing is. Via Atari.

So Coca-Cola (which to me tastes like old mouthwash) commissioned Atari (who used to make good games once) to make a Space Invader ROM hack (because that's what it is) for their sales convention (how sad) to mock their leading competitor Pepsi (which to me tastes like old mouthwash someone's dropped a Refresher into).

It's basically just Atari's pretty nifty Atari 2600 port of Space Invaders with most of the invaders replaced with the letters 'P-E-P-S-I' and the mystery ship replaced with a Pepsi logo. Which looks very detailed for an 2600 game. The addition of a three minute time limit changes the game a little and adds a nice sense of panic I often wish upon Coke representatives and unlimited lives pretty much suits their incompetence.

This is just a novelty, a funny novelty made for sad executives. And certainly not worth the two grand lunatic collectors will shell out for one of the 125 in existence. I had to find a ROM because my warped brain has to play novelties like this. But if you never played it you'd not be missing anything – except the ability to say 'I've played Pepsi Invaders'. Something I’m not sure is worth boasting about, yet I feel the need to anyway.
