It's been a long time since i've put a review on here, and i've thought long and hard about which game to write up on. I played this playable beauty to death in the late 90's, i'm shocked someone hasn't beaten me to it.

Any fans of the successful series will know Micro Machines games are essentially overhead viewed racers, raced with tiny toy vehicles on very well designed to scale tracks. This Playstation version has a slight 3D twist, whilst still keeping the overhead view.

The game welcomes you with a menu, your car drives round a choice of several game modes. These modes include Single Player Championship, Multiplayer and Time Trial.

The Time Trial speaks for itself, race the tracks, set times and race your saved ghost cars.

The Multiplayer is very popular with many people and can be played by up to eight people if you own two multi-taps (remember them). Each player has a set amount of lives, the first person to reach the end of the screen will gain a small victory and the other players lose a life. The first person to cross the finish line wins the race, but the race can be won earlier, if players lose all their lives.

Being a bit of a video gaming lone wolf, i engrossed myself in the single player game. In this, you had to try to win races, which in turn would win you Micro Machines to add to your collection.

Of course, as with earlier versions, it's not straight forward. Power Ups are now introduced with weapons like mines and hammers to cause joy and misery in equal measure. Nothing like gaining first place and then getting clobbered with a hammer! Unless you're the person doing it.

The tracks are fanatastic, fourty-eight in total. With courses on Beaches, Pool Tables, School Tables, Ponds and Science Labs among others. There are cunning hazards to match the enviroment, such as pool balls, milk, syrup, pencils, erasers and bowls among others

There are thirty-two Micro Machines to drive aswell with the likes of Tanks, Boats, Ice Cream Vans and Racing Cars, there are plenty of other vehicles, you even take to the air to race around the garden.

A fantastic, truly playable classic.
