I’ve always loved the Ridge Racer series, but Rage Racer took things to a whole new level. Firstly the graphics are amazing, with lots of cool looking stages and big undulating hills that makes it feel you’re on some sort of urban rollercoaster.

The music is typical of the series, with lots of fantastic JPop tunes, while the sound effects really make you feel like you’re competing in an extremely chaotic race.

It’s the tracks that make Rage Racer so much fun to play though. There are loads to play on and the design of them is brilliant. You have all sorts of step inclines and tight turns to deal with and it takes real skill to get through the later sections of the game.

In addition to being great fun in the arcades, Sony delivered a stunning port for the PlayStation and it remains amazing fun to play to this day. If you only ever play one Ridge Racer game then make sure that it’s this one.
